Perspective Dental Centre strives to keep your natural teeth intact at all times. When your teeth become significantly affected by cavities and decay, steps are necessary to protect the tooth as a whole. This is where inlays and onlays (known as partial crowns) come in. Our Calgary dentists will evaluate the tooth in question and determine the best course of action. Inlays are required when the cavity is too large for a simple filling. Onlays fall somewhere between an inlay and a crown, as they cover at least one cusp of the damaged tooth.
Any decay is removed and a mold is taken of the damaged tooth. A restoration is made by a dental lab and a temporary fitting is placed for your comfort. Once the final piece is finished, you will be asked to come back for another visit. At this time, the temporary protection is removed and the permanent inlay or onlay is cemented into place.
